I don't know too much about TOB but from what i do know, it's a good thing.

On the one hand you have secular society debasing sex. On the other, you have the devil accusing people - (J'accuse) filling people with false guilt (and which can lead to gloom and a form of gnosticism)

There's no sex in Heaven. But there is ecstasy (as in the ecstasy of St Teresa of Avila and all our greatest saints). And ecstasy is infinitely more joyous than sex (and ecstasy isn't just a nice idea - but a real thing, like a real life, spiritual force). Where the body and soul are in perfect hamony - directed towards, and engaged with, the love of God - the body and soul are illuminated and on fire with the love of God.

And blessed as sex is between a married couple who engage in the marital embrace to bring new life into this world and from a union of love (there is nothing self-indulgent or wrong about this) so is celibacy a blessed thing where God TRANSFORMS sexual energy into a new form of energy - a kind of creative, loving holiness (you can see holiness in people's eyes where their eyes sort of glisten with love - with joy, kindness, peace and energy un their eyes).

Some people are called entirely to the celibate life (and receive great blessings).
But married people can practice celibacy, too, to a degree (and receive great blessings as well - but overall their blessings are a bit different). Apples and oranges - but both equally important and blessed.

All evens out in the end. God doesn't really have favourites i don't think (except for children and the really vulnerable and marginalized, perhaps).

    (i think) God bless

And that Jesus and Mary were entirely celibate not because sex is wrong but because they were (/ are) devoted to the world in service not just to a particular family, overall - which is why its so important we have full celibates today (ie priests and nuns and others) and that full celibacy is a wonderful vocation (but that married people can and should practice celibacy when appropriate and never become obsessed or self-indulgent about it).

Sermon over (and i'm not a priest ...). But just think this is such an important topic that so often gets brushed under the carpet.

Apologies for monopolizing your comment (but have to qualify my comment for fear of saying something wrong - perhaps no-one is reading my comment and it doesn't matter ..)

"God doesn't have favourites except children and vulnerable and marginalized" and the apostles and great saints (most of whom were celibates) - i shouldn't have introduced word "favourites" which introduces idea of pecking order (and Jesus had to reprimand the disciples for who was the greatest etc ..).

    That's it! God bless.
