I think the fact that Holmes is so cerebral AND physical makes it much more fun, makes him more of a Renaissance man. Many thanks to your daughter!!! Let's pray for sequels! This is good news. I think a lot of people (even reviewers who didn't do their homework) think Ritchey made all this stuff up. tsk tsk.Sr. Helena Burns, fsphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09196121481873845379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11789157.post-85521057238965708172010-01-11T21:50:02.208-06:002010-01-11T21:50:02.208-06:00P.S. She said a lot of the dialogue in the film is taken straight from the Holmes stories published originally in the Strand (for example, the exchange about the pocket watch and pawn shop).Elmtreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10356074182108564006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11789157.post-67475787849962419142010-01-11T21:47:56.089-06:002010-01-11T21:47:56.089-06:00Basil Rathbone was not a Holmes faithful to the b...Basil Rathbone was not a Holmes faithful to the books. I also enjoyed his movies as a child, but agree they are 'insufferable' now.
Jeremy Brett was probably the best Holmes. My "read every Holmes story at least five times" daughter loved the movie and felt Downey's Holmes was actually more faithful character-wise to the story than Rathbone's ever was. For example, Holmes in the books was a champion lightweight boxer.
As far as "House"... "House" is obviously a character based on Holmes (the book Holmes).Elmtreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10356074182108564006noreply@blogger.com
