Article in "Christianity Today":

http://hellburns.blogspot.com/2011/09/movies-machine-gun-preacher.html ) Should the unsavory allegations prove to be true, and the movie prove to be more fictitious than true, well, then, it's just a shame all around. A well-done fictional tale, a tragedy in real life.
I had read this story a few days ago. Sometimes the only way to defend the innocent is to rain destruction down upon their oppressors. In today's Church dominated by the pink brigade and the lavendar society we forget that through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Islamic fanatics of the Ottoman Empire were turned back at the Battle of Leponto. Sometimes it takes overwhelming force. "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword." Matthew 10:34
ReplyDeletePS, no, I don't advocate arbitrary violence. But I do advocate the defense of the helpless and defenseless. Look at that child in the photo. Look at his left side all scarred and marred. Look at how crooked he holds his arm from the shoulder down. When I see that, my blood boils. If someone did that to my son or daughter, then they would answer to my mini-14 and that's the way it is.

I agree with you that sometimes violence to defend the defenseless is justifiable. I don't really have a problem with that in this case. I think what they're accusing Childers of in the article is gross neglect of the kids at his orphanage! Hopefully it's not true, and hopefully the truth of the whole thing will come out (positive or negative)!
